MITB influences people

It's a big day today, because I just came across something quite interesting.

Let me take you back a few months to Wednesday 13 January 2010. Here's what I wrote in my second blog ever:

"Big idea 1: time to do away with three tiers of government. No more state or local government, but instead regional and federal governments only."

Just another good idea from the dream factory? Maybe. But Griffith University has released a report showing "that 42 per cent of Australians now favour creating regional governments, up from 32 per cent less than two years ago." Wow.

Michael Stutchbury, Economics Editor for The Australian newspaper, expands on this topic - check this article for more on a big and growing idea.

  1. Is this really a new and growing idea as suggested by MITB or an idea that the younger generation is unaware of? Being a little older than MITB I recall my father (who was a shire president in the mid 1970s) talking about Labor trying to progress this idea under Gough Whitlam in that period.
The question that needs to be answered is how such a system would be an improvement on our current system. Is there any chance that things would improve or just a wider spread of bureaucracy?

  2. A good comment from my good friend Anonymous. You are the second person to make this point to me since I published the blog (the other fella is the same age as you, I would guess). We know there are no new ideas in politics and bureaucracy, but there is such a thing as good timing. Is the mood and timing right? What are we losing if we change? What are we gaining? To quote a fellow blogger, ponder it.
